IRMA’s inaugural Illinois Best Bagger Competition, held August 17, 2026, generated significant statewide media attention while celebrating the skill, professionalism, and customer-service excellence of Illinois grocery employees. Taking place during the Illinois State Fair, the competition showcased contestants’ bagging speed, proper bag-building technique, weight distribution, style, attitude, and professional demeanor.
Congratulations to the winners:
- First Place – Carlos Sabino, Hy-Vee in Rock Island
Carlos received $500 and will represent Illinois at the National Grocers Association Best Bagger Championship in Las Vegas, where he will compete for a $10,000 grand prize
- Second Place – Shelby Morton, Hy-Vee in Galesburg – $250 prize
- Third Place – Mike Clark, Hy-Vee in Moline – $100 prize
