National honor recognizes exceptional leadership in advancing Illinois’ retail industry and strengthening the business environment for retailers
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Retail Merchants Association (IRMA) today announced that President and CEO Rob Karr has been named the recipient of the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) prestigious J. Thomas Weyant Award, one of the retail industry’s highest honors recognizing outstanding leadership among state retail association executives.
Presented annually by the NRF, the Weyant Award honors leaders who have dedicated their careers to strengthening state retail associations and who have skillfully worked to enhance the business environment in their state to the benefit of retailers, demonstrated keen insight into government and community affairs, and promoted the economic benefits of the retail industry.
Karr has led IRMA’s efforts to ensure retailers have a strong voice in Springfield, Chicago City Hall, Cook County Board Chambers, and regulatory agencies across the state. Under his leadership, IRMA has continued to build upon a reputation as one of the nation’s most effective state retail associations, successfully advocating for policies that foster economic growth, protect retailers from organized retail crime, strengthen workforce development, and create a more competitive business climate for retailers of every size and sector.
Representing retailers ranging from independent Main Street businesses to national brands, IRMA works to help members navigate an increasingly complex legislative and regulatory environment while advancing practical, pro-business policies that allow retailers to invest, innovate, create jobs and serve their communities.
“This recognition is truly an honor because it reflects the work of so many people who care deeply about the future of Illinois’ retail industry,” said Rob Karr, president and CEO, Illinois Retail Merchants Association. “Every day, IRMA has the privilege of advocating for retailers large and small that serve communities across our state, create jobs, drive investment and strengthen Illinois’ economy. I am grateful to our members, our Board of Directors, and especially the entire team with whom I am blessed to work each day, for their partnership and commitment. I am honored to accept this award.”
Retail is Illinois’ largest private-sector employer and a critical driver of the state’s economy. Through advocacy, education and member services, IRMA works to ensure retailers of all sizes have the resources, representation and policy environment needed to continue growing, investing and serving Illinois communities.
