GOVERNOR’S BRIEFING

During today’s briefing, Governor JB Pritzker focused on the pandemic unemployment insurance system for self-employed individuals and independent contractors pursuant to federal law. More than 50,000 have been filed as of today. These benefits are paid for 100% by the federal government.

During Q&A, the Governor was pressed over resentment of counties near Chicago who meet the metrics (see Regional Progress Report below) but are looped in with Chicago. His answer was that people frequently travel outside of areas. He also noted this is about healthcare resources and accommodating a possible surge.

The Governor reiterated that he will not support delaying the July 1st minimum wage increase from $9.25 to $10.00 calling the 8.1% increase ‘small’ and not that important to small businesses.

REGIONAL PROGRESS REPORT

Under the Governor’s Restore Illinois plan, in order to move from Phase 2 to Phase 3, each of the four medical regions must have a surge capacity of at least 14% for hospital beds, ICU beds and ventilators. The positivity rating for the region must be under 20% for a 14-day period. Any number in red means that region has not met the capacity requirement for that category. These numbers are calculated on 14-day rolling periods with a 3-day delay. This is the first time the Northeast region met the positivity rate threshold of 20%.

RETAIL CARES

IRMA launched a campaign called Illinois Retail Cares. It is an effort to tell the story of the many efforts retailers have undertaken during the pandemic to meet the needs of the hungry, healthcare workers, first responders, etc. These are efforts above-and-beyond the herculean efforts retailers have undertaken to meet the demands of consumers. Each week new stories will be told. If you have a story to share, we would love to share it! Please email your story to us today.
