GOVERNOR’S BRIEFING

Governor JB Pritzker‘s briefing focused on statistics as they relate to regionalization. The Governor noted that COVID-19 is ‘not just a Chicago problem’. He pointed to the fact that of the top 5 counties by infection rate, two (Jasper and Randolph counties) are downstate. 

WORKERS’ COMPENSATION COMMISSION

This morning, the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) formally withdrew the emergency rule that had been the subject of lawsuit brought by IRMA, the IMA, and supported by about two-dozen other groups. As expected, the IWCC also released a memo stating they were forming a committee of practitioners to “examine other possible actions that the Commission may take, in light of the Covid-19 Pandemic and its impact upon the actions of this Commission under the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission Act and the Illinois Workers’ Occupational Diseases Act. IRMA will keep you up-to-date as this committee meets. 

FACE COVERINGS SUPPLIERS

Beginning May 1st, everyone will be required to wear a facial covering when they cannot maintain social distancing and are in a public place. In order to assist retailers in the procurement of facial coverings, IRMA will pass along supplier information as received. Retailers can review and contact the supplier of their choice on IRMA’s website

ILLINOIS COVID-19 IMPACT UPDATE

Dr. Ngozi Ezike, MD, Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 1,980 new cases in Illinois, including 50 additional deaths.  IDPH is reporting a total of 45,883 cases, to date, including 1,983 deaths, in 96 of Illinois’ 102 counties. 

As of midnight, there were 4,672 individuals hospitalized as a result of COVID-19. of those, 1,244 or 26.2% are in the ICU. Of those in the ICU, 763 or 21.2% are on ventilators.

Over the last 24-hours, the state has conducted 12,676 tests have been conducted for a total of 227,628.
