Illinois Retail Merchants Association honors Darvin Furniture as Retailer of the Year
CHICAGO—The Illinois Retailers Merchants Association is proud to announce that Darvin Furniture is the 2016 Illinois Retailer of the Year. Darvin, a third-generation family-owned furniture store in Orland Park, was selected for the award due to their success in the industry, their innovation meeting consumer desires and their dedication to the community and employees that they serve.
“Darvin Furniture is not only Chicagoland’s largest furniture store, but also one of the top 100 furniture retailers in the country. They are second to none when it comes to customer service, merchandise quality and selection and the welcoming environment they’ve created for customers and employees alike,” said Rob Karr, president and CEO of the Illinois Retail Merchants Association. “It’s an honor and privilege to recognize Darvin Furniture as the 2016 Illinois Retailer of the Year.”
Darvin Furniture is proud to receive the award and is appreciative of IRMA’s partnership when it comes to important issues faced by retailers throughout the state. IRMA continues to focus on topics that are important to retailers ensuring our collective voice is heard in Springfield and Chicago.
The Darvin family has a name long associated with the home furnishings industry. Louis Darvin got his start in the furniture business in the early 1920’s by selling furniture door to door using catalog pictures. Over time, his reputation – and business – grew. In the early 1940s, Louis opened a Chicago store with his son, David. After Louis’ passing, David continued his father’s passion for selling high quality product at low prices, with exceptional customer service. The family passion continued on when David’s sons, Steve and Marty, officially joined the business in the 1970s, and currently serve as co-owners. Over the years, Darvin Furniture has experienced much change. Through changing store locations, various technology platforms and product expansions, and constantly evolving customer desires, one thing has always remained the same – that is, Darvin’s philosophy to run a business with integrity and a dedication to their employees. They currently employ a professional staff of more than 200 associates priding themselves on fostering an environment that is fair, transparent and provides many opportunities for longevity and growth.
“The sum of the total makes the company stronger,” said co-owner, Marty Darvin. “We run our business with a commitment to our employees and our customers which is something our father, David Darvin, long-instilled in us.”
With an impressive footprint, Darvin Furniture spans over 11 acres with a showroom with more than 200,000 sq. ft. filled with the latest styles in home furnishings. They carry leading brands and guarantee the lowest prices in the Chicagoland area. They also operate a 218,000 sq. ft. distribution center in neighboring Mokena – proof of their unequaled approach to customer service and availability.
Darvin Furniture received this award at the Illinois Retail Merchants Association’s 59th Annual Meeting and Luncheon on October 5, 2016 at the Palmer House in Chicago.
