ILLINOIS MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES JULY 1st
On July 1st, Illinois’ minimum wage will increase from the current $8.00 per hour to $8.25 per hour. This increase is the third and final annual increase established under the current law.
IRMA members will recall that in 2007, despite the opposition of IRMA, the General Assembly approved, and then-Governor Rod Blagojevich signed into law, Public Act 94-1072 . This law increased Illinois’ minimum wage from $6.50 per hour to $7.50 per hour and established annual twenty-five cent increases every July 1st through 2010.
Unless a new law is passed by the Assembly and signed into law by the Governor, Illinois’ minimum wage will now remain at $8.25 per hour. As of this writing, Illinois’ minimum wage is $1.00 per hour higher than the Federal minimum wage, $1.00 per hour higher than all of our border states (i.e. Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, and Wisconsin), and the third highest in the country behind Washington and Oregon.
